Public vigilance leads to arrest of criminals in Antipolo City - police

Police cited the vigilance of the public in the solution of crimes that occurred in Antipolo City the past few days.

Police Lt. Col. June Paolo Abrazado, Antipolo police chief, told Manila Bulletin that the cooperation of the victim and the prompt response of the witnesses resulted in the arrest of five robbers who pulled a heist on Feb. 2.

Based on the police report, two motorcycle-riding men robbed an Indian national at gunpoint in Barangay Dalig.

The victim sought the help of several bystanders who in turn sought the assistance of an off-duty policeman, leading to the apprehension of one of the two suspects.

During his arrest, the suspect yielded a .38-caliber revolver with three live bullets and a gun replica. His cohort managed to escape and is now the subject of a follow-up operation.

Earlier this week, four suspects in a passenger jeep robbery were arrested after receiving information from concerned citizens. Several robbery victims went to the police station and positively identified them as the same persons who held them up at knife-point while riding the vehicle along Marcos Highway in the early morning of Feb. 2.

City Mayor Andrea Bautista Ynares also commended the police for the arrest of four suspected drug pushers in two separate anti-criminality operations in Barangay Cupang and Barangay Dela Paz. The police operations resulted in the confiscation of several sachets of illegal drugs and the filing of criminal cases against the suspects.

Lt. Col. Abrazada said the public may report crime incidents or they may relay information through the Antipolo Police Station hotline numbers: Smart- 09985985717; and Globe: 09171577627 or through its official Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/AntipoloPulis.
