The stars of Netflix’s “All of Us Are Dead” have experienced fame since the zombie series was released on Jan. 28.
“All of Us Are Dead” is No. 1 on Netflix in 59 countries and territories as of Feb. 3, according to streaming analytics company FlixPatrol.
The Korean series debuted at No. 1 on Netflix’s own top 10 weekly chart for the period Jan. 24 to 30.
“All of Us Are Dead” tells about students who are trapped in their high school when zombies invade. They need to fight off the zombies to survive.
It stars Park Ji-hu, Yoon Chan-young, Lomon (aka Park Solomon), Cho Yi-hyun, Yoo In-soo, Lim Jae-hyeok, Son Sang-Yeon and Lee Yoo-mi.
In a video released by Netflix, the cast members revealed what they felt when they got their roles and the atmosphere during the filming.
“When I got the script, I read it all in one go,” said actress Park Ji-Hu, who plays the role of Nam On-jo, who has a crush on Lee Su-Hyeok, played by Lomon.
Lomon said, “The script was really gripping.”
According to Yoon Chan-Young, who is Lee Cheong-San in “All of Us Are Dead,” he had a party when he got the role “where my family and I had cake and wine together.”
Actress Cho Yi-Hyun, who plays class president Choi Nam-ra, said she “really wanted to be part of a Netflix series and luckily, I was.”
Park Ji-Hu was second year in high school when she was filming “All of Us Are Dead” and she said, “For me, as a high school student, a school is my second home, right? I think it is very interesting as it is a story happening in a school.”
Roles
They have different views about their characters. Lomon said Choi Nam-ra is Lee Su-Hyeok’s first love.
“Su-Hyeok is a reliable leader. His courage to protect his friends and his feelings for Nam-ra. That is what I focused on,” said the 22-year-old actor.
Lee Yoo-mi, who plays Lee Na-yeon, a wealthy student, and the most hated character in the series, said, “Sometimes I cannot understand Na-yeon but I get why she does what she does. I feel love and hate toward her.”
Actor Yoo In-soo, who plays the role of school bully Yoon Gwi-nam, said, “In a zombie-infested school, he is a more dangerous threat to survivors than zombies.”
In “All of Us Are Dead,” Yoon Chan-Young and Yoo In-soo are always at each other’s throats but the two actors said they were close in the set.
“But in reality, we went to a cafe and saw the nightscape,” said Yoon Chan-Young while Yoo In-soo said, “We talked about acting and the show. We are foes in the show but friends in reality.”
“That is how we worked so well together when fighting ,” said Yoon Chan-Young.
The cast praised director Lee Jae-kyoo for making it fun during the filming.
“If it worked well in a certain situation, we could improvise as freely as we wanted,” said Yoon Chan-Young.
Park Ji-hu cited one scene where he had to hit a teacher, who turned into a zombie, with a bag. She said the director asked her “to hit him too to see how much it hurt.”
“He is fun and reliable,” said Lomon.
Filming
“I had never worked with others my age. Every moment was so much fun,” said Lomon.
Cho Yi-Hyun said the cast’s chemistry is “needless to say, it is perfect. My personality changed a bit . I have become more cheerful and more mature as a person.”
According to Park Ji-hu, she spent two years of her high school living as On-jo, saying, “So I am glad I was able to relate to her the way I did.” She said she became emotional during the last shooting.
“All of Us Are Dead” is a 12-episode Korean series that is available on Netflix.
