Valenzuela City Mayor Rex Gatchalian announced on Wednesday, Feb. 2 that 1,500 minors aged five to 11 have already listed for vaccination against the coronavirus disease (COVID- 19) since the registration opened on Tuesday, Feb.1.
The vaccination for the said age group will start on Feb.7.
In an interview with ANC on Wednesday, Gatchalian said they will open three to four vaccination sites for the kids in Valenzuela.
He added that minors have to be accompanied by their parents when going to the vaccination sites.
"Given that these are smaller kids, I think it's going to be a family affair, so you can't mix them with other people or else you'll start violating social distancing rules," Gatchalian said.
He also said medical workers from closed isolation facilities will be redeployed to the vaccination sites to focus on the minors.
Gatchalian said that the parents are required to register their kids since there are requirements that they need to bring before getting the jab.
He added that the city has a project that helps residents to process their birth certificates (which they can present as a requirement for the minor's vaccination).
Meanwhile, Gatchalian said the city government is still offering free COVID-19 testing to residents who experience symptoms, close contacts of infected individuals, board examinees, and even first-time job seekers.
