12 nabbed in illegal cockfighting den

CEBU CITY – Twelve persons were arrested when police raided an illegal cockfight locally known as "tigbakay" in Liloan town, northern Cebu on Saturday, Jan. 29.

To the shock of the raiding team from the Liloan Police Station, one of the arrested persons was a policeman.

Police Staff Sgt. June Ernie Lucero Camero, who is assigned at the Provincial Plans and Program Unit of the Cebu Provincial Police Office, was arrested in the cockfight held in Sitio Ka Santos, Barangay Cadiangan, Liloan, Cebu.

Other arrested persons were Jefferson Cabatingan, Carlos Renato Bugtai, Jose Magdadaro Jr, Renaldo Siroy, Carlo Suico, Marvin Suico, Romelino Seroy, Rubin Himarangan, Wilfredo Mandawe, Randel Yuson and Fernando Intena.

Confiscated from them were fighting cocks, two pieces of gaffs, and P1,500 bet money.

Police Brig. Gen. Roque Eduardo Vega, chief of the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas, said the arrest of Camero should serve as a stern warning to other policemen.

"Never engage in illegal gambling, illegal drugs. This should serve as a warning to all policemen that no one will be spared in our campaign against illegal activities. Do not do something that will destroy the image of law enforcers," said Vega.

Appropriate charges will be filed against the policeman and the other arrested persons, said Vega.
