Two suspected bomb couriers slain in Sultan Kudarat


ISULAN, SULTAN KUDARAT — Two suspected bomb couriers were killed after they shot it out with policemen who were conducting a checkpoint in Esperanza town on Monday, Jan. 24.

PBrig. Gen. Alexander Tagum, Police Regional Office-12 director, identified the suspects as Guimaludin Kasan, 32 and a certain Bronx, both Residents of Guindulungan, Maguindanao.

He said the suspects, were aboard a Suzuki multi-cab on their way to Isulan where tried to evade a police check point along the national highway in Barangay Poblacion, Esperanza.

It was then when they figured in a shootout with pursuing policemen led by police chief Jethro Dave Doligan who collared them in Barangay Sagasa around 130 p.m. Monday.

Police seized a .22 caliber revolver, several grams of 'shabu' and improvised explosive device from the slain suspects.

Tagum said the suspects are said to be members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters, a local terror group which had pledged allegiance to ISIS Islamic extremist group in Iraq and Syria.

"The suspects were out to stage terror attacks in Central Mindanao but were foiled by police authorities,"Tagum said.

Police said the suspects were also tagged in criminal activities including carnapping and illegal drug trade.
