What you need to know about Dominic Fike, the newest star of HBO’s ‘Euphoria’

Oh, and yes, he is Filipino-American

Finally, after two years (except for its specials in 2020), viewers are taken back again to East Highland High School to witness the young tales of love, sex, drugs, and everything in between with the second season of HBO’s hit series, “Euphoria.”

Emmy award-winner Zendaya, who portrays the teenage drug addict Rue, and the rest of the gang are back for more drama that hits hard on today’s youth culture, both IRL and URL. This time, things just get nastier, more complicated, and “graphic.” If you saw the first few episodes, then you would know what we mean. Phallophobes, beware.

Of course, a new season comes new characters to stir the plot. And among those who have been introduced is Dominic Fike, who makes his acting debut as the show’s Elliot. A teen who’s also into drugs, his character is likely to become a challenge between the relationship of Rue and Jules, played by Hunter Schafer, as Elliot hints feeling toward Rue.

Curious about how their stories unfold? Well, we all have to sit back and wait for that. For now, we have listed a few things you should know about the “Euphoria” newbie.

He is a musician

Prior to becoming a drug-sniffing boy on TV, the 26-yer-old is singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. He rose to the music scene in 2018 through Columbia Records, with his EP “Don't Forget About Me, Demos,” which he recorded in Florida while under house arrest, according to Rolling Stone. In 2020, he release another album titled “What Could Possibly Go Wrong.”

He has major music collaborations

Dominic has worked and collaborated with many of the music industry giants such as Halsey, Justin Bieber, and Paul McCartney. In 2021, he recorded a cover of “The Kiss of Venus” for McCartney’s album “McCartney III.”

He auditioned for the first season of ‘Euphoria’

A story by Variety confirms that Dominic auditioned for the series before. He read a Mark Wahlberg scene from the movie “Boogie Nights” and made it to the final round of casting “before his character was written out of the show.” HBO reached out again a year later and asked him to audition for a bigger part.

His Elliot character reminds him of himself

Dominic sees Elliot as a reflection of his younger self saying to Variety, “I don’t have to do much acting. He’s exactly like me. It’s sh*t I would say and sh*t I would do.”

He is part Filipino

Yes. Rolling Stone confirms that Dominic is an African-American and Filipino artist.

“Euphoria” season 2 is now streaming on HBO Go. Watch the trailer below.
