The Taguig City government will establish more vaccination checkpoints in line with the implementation of the policy restricting the movement of unvaccinated individuals.
In a COVID-19 report video by the city government, Taguig Safe City Task Force head Clarence Santos said the vaccination checkpoints were rolled out in high-risk barangays through the help of the police, the Tapang, Malasakit and Disiplina (TMD) team, and Barangay Affairs Office.
People who pass through the checkpoints are being checked about their vaccination status by asking them to present their vaccination cards.
“Binibigyan din ng agarang tulong ang mga hindi pa bakunadong residente o nagtatrabaho sa Taguig kaysa basta na lamang sila pauwiin (We give immediate help to the unvaccinated residents or those who work in Taguig instead of letting them go home),” said Santos in the video.
He said the strategy is to ask the unvaccinated if they want to get inoculated. If they agree, he said, they will be immediately brought to the nearest vaccination hub using a stand-by shuttle service at the vaccination checkpoint.
If the flagged unvaccinated individuals refuse to get vaccinated, they will be taken to a COVID-19 testing site or to a barangay health center for them to get their medical certificate from the barangay health center or City Health Office.
Santos said the setting up of vaccination checkpoints in Lower Bicutan and Upper Bicutan Maharlika area resulted in 414 unvaccinated individuals getting their jabs at community vaccination sites.
On Jan. 22, the Taguig City government set up vaccination checkpoints along General Santos Avenue near the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and Waterfun along MRT Avenue in Barangay Pinagsama, Taguig.
According to Santos, 14 additional vaccination checkpoints will be established in strategic locations in Taguig.
“While there is a surge , it is important that we limit the movement of the unvaccinated because they are vulnerable. If they get infected, they will be infectious,” said Mayor Lino Cayetano in the city government video.
Cayetano earlier signed the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Resolution 22-01, which asked local government units (LGUs) in Metro Manila to pass ordinances to restrict the movement of unvaccinated individuals.
The Taguig Safe City Task Force adopted the resolution and issued Advisory No. 62 restricting the movement of unvaccinated persons.
Under the advisory, the Taguig task force said unvaccinated individuals in the city should adhere to the following:
- “Remain in their residences at all times except for the procurement of essential goods and services such as, but not limited to, food, water, medicine, medical devices, public utilities, and energy, work, and medical and dental necessities;
- “Be prohibited in indoor and outdoor/al fresco dining in restaurants and other food establishments and shall likewise be prohibited from leisure or social trips to malls, hotels, event venues, Taguig City Hall, sports and country clubs, and similar facilities;
- “Be prohibited in domestic travel via public transportation by land, sea, and air except for the procurement of essential goods and services such as, but not limited to, food, water, medicine, medical devices, public utilities, and energy, work, and medical and dental necessities subject to the production of proof to support and justify such travel; and,
- “Be required to undergo a Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT PCR) test every two (2) weeks at their personal expense and present a COVID-19 negative result prior to being admitted for work onsite.”
As of Jan. 20, Taguig has 460 active coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases including 288 new cases out of 56,173 confirmed cases, 55,272 recoveries and 441 deaths.
