Detained POGO worker rescued from employer in Las Pinas City

Police rescued last Friday a Chinese national from his employer who detained him and demanded P4 million for his release in Las Pinas City.

Southern Police District (SPD) director Brig. Gen. Jimili Macaraeg identified the victim as Bi Wenqi, 29, a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operation (POGO) employee.

Macaraeg said Wenqi was rescued after a certain Jdel Mijares, 28, appeared at the Las Pinas Police Station Investigation Detective and Management (SIDM) office and reported that the victim was being physically harmed and detained by the employer.

Mijares also told police that Wenqi’s employer was also demanding P4 million from the victim for his release.

The SPD chief said members of the SIDM immediately proceeded to Hongtai Building in Barangay Almanza Uno, Las Pinas where the foreign national was being held, at about 5:50 p.m. Friday.

Macaraeg said the cops coordinated with the building security guard, Severino Pingkian, for the release of the victim.

The SPD chief said the victim was voluntarily turned over by his employer to the police.

Macaraeg said Wenqi did not file any complaint against his employer.
