DepEd official gunned down in Sultan Kudarat


TACURONG CITY - A ranking official of the Department of Education in Maguindanao was killed after he was waylaid Monday night, Jan. 17, by unidentified gunmen in Barangay San Pablo, this city.

PLt.Col. Joan Maganto, Tacurong City police chief, said Javier Kumandi, 55, Deped district supervisor in Pandag, Maguindanao, and was driving a Toyota Innova car together with wife Jeanine, 52 were on their way home when waylaid by unidentified gunmen aboard a sports utility vehicle (SUV) past 6 p.m. along Purok Katilingban, Brgy. San Pablo, this city.

Kumandi succumbed to multiple bullet wounds in the body while his wife was also injured.

PColonel Tom Tuzon, sultan Kudarat police provincial director, has deployed additional policemen to beef up security measures here following the spate of shooting incidents in the past days.

Last January 12, a former radio anchor, Jaynard Angles, was gunned down while tending to his vehicle being repaired at a car shop in Barangay New Carmen.

Tuzon ordered an intensified police patrol and checkpoint at the strategic entry and exit points of the city to thwart shooting incidents amid the implementation of the election gun ban.
