PH records 30k plus new COVID-19 cases


The Department of Health (DOH) reported 37,070 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases on Monday, Jan. 17, close to Sunday's tally of 37,154.

Monday's case bulletin brings the total number of cases to 3,242,374. Of this, 290,938 or 9 percent are active cases. DOH data showed that almost 98.4 percent of cases are mild and asymptomatic.

Among the active cases, 277,020 are mild, 9,187 are asymptomatic, 2,947 are moderate, 1,480 are severe while 304 are in critical condition.

DOH also reported 33,940 recoveries, bringing the total number to 2,898,507 or 89.4 percent of the total cases.

It also said that 23 have died from COVID-19 bringing the death toll to 52,929 or 1.63 percent of the total cases.

In the country, Intensive Care Unit (ICU) utilization stands at 49 percent, isolation bed utilization is at 47 percent, COVID wards are at 50 percent utilization while 22 percent ventilator utilization was recorded.

Meanwhile, in Metro Manila ICU utilization is at 58 percent, isolation bed utilization is 48 percent, COVID wards are at 62 percent utilization while ventilator utilization is at 30 percent.
