Drunk cop shoots wife, toddler child dead in Catanduanes

A rookie policeman shot his wife to death--the bullet pierced through her body and also killed their three-year old child in Virac, Catanduanes.

Immediately after the incident, a police report reaching Camp Crame in Quezon City stated that Patrolman Jaymas Malasa also took his own life by shooting himself, apparently after realizing what he had done.

And it all started when the couple figured in a heated argument when Malasa, a member of the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company in Catanduanes.
, went home drunk on Saturday, Jan. 15.

"The heated discussion turned bloody when the suspect pulled his service firearm and shot his wife. The bullet pierced through the wife’s body hitting the child with the same bullet," the report read.

"The police officer then shot himself which resulted in his instantaneous death," it added.

Gen. Dionardo Carlos, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), reminded police personnel to exercise due diligence in handling their issued firearms.

“We are sorry for the loss of lives. It is with sadness that we hear about the circumstances. May this serve as a lesson for our police officers to take precautions and never put the law into their hands," said Carlos.

"You underwent gun safety training. Use all the learning to effectively and responsibly discharge your duty,” Carlos said emphasizing that every PNP personnel is accountable for his/her action," he added.
