Bacolod records all-time high COVID-19 cases at 189

BACOLOD CITY — The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) here has recorded on Jan. 17, 2022, its highest COVID-19 cases at 189 since the start of the pandemic.

EOC executive director Em Legaspi-Ang, said on Monday that this is considered the highest three digit number recorded by the city since May 2021, wherein 180 cases were logged being the highest at that time.

The data was based on the real time results from the molecular laboratory released on Sunday night.

Ang said that most of the infected were those with travel history, pregnant women, and with comorbidities that are asymptomatic.

Despite this, Ang said that hospitalization utilization rate is relatively low at 31 percent.

She also added that only one COVID-19 death was recorded so far this month.

Ang said they reopened three quarantine facilities here, following the rise in COVID-19 cases.

Ang said that COVID-19 patients are qualified to be under home quarantine if they are asymptomatic, has separate bathroom and bedroom, and all households are fully vaccinated.

Ang said the vaccination program of the city government continues, encouraging the remaining unvaccinated residents here.

The city had already surpassed the 70 percent target out of the total population here on the vaccination campaign.

In fact, she said that they average 6,000-8,000 daily in the vaccination drive because of booster shots.

Meanwhile, Ang said that it is the prerogative of establishments here if they will implement “no vaccine, no entry.”

Ang said there’s no official word yet from the city government to implement it, but she believes it’s a good mitigation measure to also prevent their employees from getting infected.

The city was placed under Alert Level 3 from Jan. 15.
