Grab Philippines is set to mandate a weekly COVID testing among unvaccinated drivers and delivery riders in its platform as part of efforts to ensure the safety of both its partners and consumers.
The mandatory testing, which will begin Monday, Jan. 17, will be part of the firm's GrabProtect Program in support of the recent government policies concerning unvaccinated individuals amid the rising COVID-19 cases in the country.
According to Grab, drivers and delivery partners who will test negative at the Grab-accredited testing sites will be able to receive bookings from the platform.
Meanwhile, Grab also encouraged its fully vaccinated partners to already get their booster shots, if eligible, from their respective local government units.
The ride-hailing app likewise increased its COVID Assistance Fund by 4X to support fully vaccinated partners who may have contracted COVID-19 and would need to self-isolate.
Grab said the aid will help cover the potential loss of income and medical expenses of their COVID-positive drivers and delivery-partners, as well as those who may experience side effects from their booster shots.
To ensure safety and hygiene throughout the platform, Grab partners were also urged to regularly disinfect their vehicles and their gears, and observe public health protocols.
"By continuously enhancing our existing safety and hygiene protocols, we are supporting many Filipinos who rely on Grab for their everyday needs and livelihoods," Grab Philippines Country Head Grace Vera Cruz said.
"Grab will continue to support the fight against COVID, and rest assured that we will continue to revisit, enhance, and tailor our safety and hygiene measures to better support our kababayans," she added.
