Car crashes into bank in Zamboanga City

Two persons were injured after a sports utility vehicle (SUV) crashed into a bank Thursday afternoon, January 13, along Veterans Avenue in Zamboanga City.

63-year-old Pedro Napalcruz, a resident of Barangay Ayala, told police investigators that the car crashed inside the Philippine National Bank (PNB) after losing its brakes.

Investigation showed that Napalcruz drove the SUV which took his daughter to the bank that afternoon. Napalcruz stayed inside the vehicle while the daughter transacted business inside the establishment.

After several minutes, the daughter left the bank and boarded the vehicle. Napalcruz reportedly put the gear in reverse and backed up towards the road but the car suddenly jerked forward and crashed onto the bank.

Two bank employees sustained minor scratches from glass door shrapnel.

Zamboanga police impounded the vehicle and invited the driver for further questioning.
