Cold weather, rains expected in Luzon, Visayas due to ‘amihan’; shear line to bring rains across Mindanao

The northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan” will continue to bring cold weather and light rains in Luzon and Visayas, while the shear line, also called the tail-end of frontal system, may bring rains across Mindanao, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Thursday, Jan. 13.

“Makakaasa pa rin tayo na bukod sa malamig na simoy ng hangin, ang mahihinang pag-ulan sa malaking bahagi ng Luzon at Visayas . Samantalang ang shear line ay patuloy na nakakaapekto sa eastern section ng Mindanao (Aside from cold weather, we can expect light rains in Luzon and Visayas. Meanwhile, the shear line may continue to affect the eastern section of Mindanao),” said PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio in a public weather forecast.

Residents of eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, Caraga, northern Mindanao, and Davao region were likewise warned against possible flash floods or landslides during moderate to at times heavy rains that the shear line may bring.

Meanwhile, Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Ifugao, Mountain Province, Aurora, and Quezon may experience cloudy skies with light rains due to the northeast monsoon.

The State weather bureau added that Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, and Visayas may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the northeast monsoon.
