6 PDLs killed, 33 injured in Caloocan City jail riot


A total of six persons deprived of liberty (PDL) were confirmed killed, and 33 were injured, four of them seriously, after a riot broke out between two rival gangs inside the Caloocan City Jail on Monday afternoon, Jan. 10.

According to a report from ABS-CBN News, the brawl involved two PDL groups which also left four inmates with serious injuries.

Jail Supt. Xavier Solda, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) spokesperson, said that all activities in the City Jail will temporarily be suspended to give way to the investigation being conducted by the BJMP.

There are also additional personnel assigned to ensure peace and order in the facility.

Authorities are on heightened alert while the jail is being cleared for any contraband.

The officer-in charge of the facility, Jail. Supt. Neil Subibi, was relieved from his post for "command responsibility and was immediately replaced by Jail Supt. Lloyd Gonzaga.

Solda said that they are coordinating with the families of those who died in the brawl.
