Wild Rift Champions SEA begins Jan. 22, crowning tourney set in Europe


Wild Rift Champions SEA is set to begin on Jan. 22 as part of the eight regional leagues which will serve as the pillars of Wild Rift Esports’ first official season in 2022.

In the Riot Games livestream on Friday, Jan. 7, Wild Rift revealed the eight regional leagues namely – Wild Rift Cup in Japan, Wild Rift League in China, Wild Rift Champions in Korea, Wild North America Series in NA region, Wild Tour in Brazil, Wild Rift Championship EMEA in Europe, Middle East-North Africa and CIS regions, Wild Rift Latin America Open in LA region and Wild Rift Champions SEA in Southeast Asia and Oceania region.

Its crowning tournament, Wild Rift Icons Global Championship, is set in Europe around June and September this year. Twenty four teams will star in the global meet with eight slots allotted for top teams from the regional leagues. The 16 remaining slots will be determined through a play-in stage.

Wild Rift made a successful debut in the competitive scene through its Wild Rift’s Horizon Cup in Singapore last month. Chinese squad Da Kun Gaming ruled the tournament while the all-Filipino squad of Team Secret finished at the 3rd-4th spots.

Team Secret finished second in the Southeast Asia Championship 2021 behind SBTC Esports which earned them a ticket to the Horizon Cup. Fennel Adversity also joined but was booted out early in the tournament.

The two Filipino teams became the country’s representatives after topping the Philippine Pro-Gaming 2021 Fall which also featured other Filipino Wild Rift squads from Omega Esports, Bren Esports, RRQ, DR Esports and Lakan Esports.
