Muntinlupa’s active COVID-19 cases reach more than 1,000


Muntinlupa recorded 363 new cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), bringing the city’s total active cases to more than 1,000.

Data from the Muntinlupa City Health Office (CHO) showed that as of Jan. 8, the active COVID-19 cases in the city reached 1,293 out of 28,992 confirmed cases, 27,117 recoveries and 582 deaths. The total is an increase of 324 or 33 percent from 969 active cases on Jan. 7.

This is the first time in a little over three months since Muntinlupa’s active cases reached more than 1,000.

The city had 1,048 active cases last Sept. 30. It went down to only five on Dec. 20 and started to climb again.

Of the 363 new cases, Bgy. Poblacion has the highest with 72 followed by Putatan with 71; Ayala Alabang, 54; Tunasan, 48; Alabang, 33; Bayanan, 31; Sucat, 27; Cupang, 21; and Buli, six.

By active cases, Putatan has the highest tally with 281 followed by Poblacion, 188; Ayala Alabang, 175; Tunasan, 168; Cupang, 134; Alabang, 122; Sucat, 121; Bayanan, 81; and Buli, 23.

Amid the rise in cases, Muntinlupa Mayor Jaime Fresnedi appealed to the public to protect themselves and their families by strictly following health protocols including wearing of face masks, physical distancing and handwashing.

The Muntinlupa City government, Muntinlupa police, CHO and barangays have intensified the implementation of rules under Alert Level 3 including restricting the movement of unvaccinated individuals.

Melecio Buslig together with Dr. Kenneth Cuis and Eduardo Dionisio, representatives from CHO, visited and inspected hotels in Muntinlupa, which serve as quarantine hotels for returning overseas Filipino workers. They met managers and security officers of the hotels regarding the implementation of quarantine policies.

The city government has stepped up its vaccination efforts to get more people inoculated amid the rise in COVID-19 cases.

Barangays and the police are implementing policies on unvaccinated individuals.

Metro Manila mayors earlier signed a resolution to restrict the movement of unvaccinated persons.

The city government is also conducting antigen tests on people. If they test positive, they will undergo reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test for confirmation.

The Department of Health (DOH) recorded 26,458 new COVID-19 cases in the country on Jan. 8 to bring the total active cases to 102,017.
