MB Daily News Update

Just when more Filipinos are starting to feel that the worse of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic is over, a resurgence in infections could lead to the escalation of restrictions in Metro Manila to its highest at Alert Level 4.

Unfortunately, shifting to stricter restrictions could now be more probable after a new record-high of 26,458 infections was recorded on Saturday.

Moving to Alert Level 4 was not discounted by Palace spokesperson Karlo Nograles, who said the government would be keeping a close eye on the figures relative to the surge in COVID-19 cases.

Meanwhile, a pharmaceutical group assured the public that efforts are underway to replenish diminished stocks of anti-flu medicines like paracetamol in drug stories.

In a piece of welcome news, the top official of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) disclosed that deployment of Filipino seafarers abroad has returned nearly to pre-pandemic levels.

These are among the top stories this Saturday afternoon, Jan. 8, 2022.
