Remulla: We can't afford another lockdown

CAVITE – Gov. Jonvic Remulla reminded his constituents to take extra precaution now that the province is facing a new surge in coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases.

"WE CANNOT AFFORD ANOTHER LOCKDOWN. Masyadong maraming maapektuhan (It will affect so many people). So please take responsibility for yourself and the ones you love," Remulla wrote on Facebook on Friday (Jan. 7).

According to the governor, the provincial capitol has recorded 50 COVID-19 cases.

Remulla said that although the Omicron variant appears to cause mild symptoms, experts predict that the new surge in cases may last for five weeks.

"Sa bahay na lang muna kayo kung maaari. Always wear a mask properly at iwas muna sa gimik kasama ang tropa (Stay at home as much as possible. Always wear a mask properly and avoid gatherings with your friends for now)," Remulla added.

According to data from the Department of Health Center for Health Development IVA, Cavite has 1,370 active COVID-19 cases as of Jan. 6 – the highest in the region.
