Homegrown firm PilipinasAuto will be supplying electric vehicle (EV) fleets to eSakay Inc., the electric mobility enabler-firm of power utility giant Manila Electric Company (Meralco).
According to the power firm, PilipinasAuto already started deploying two EV models for eSakay and these are the electric pick-up now being utilized for Meralco’s green mobility program. This is the electric van that is used by tech-logistics firm Mober, which is also a partner of eSakay.
“Through its Green Mobility Program, Meralco is beginning to electrify its vehicle fleet as part of the company’s commitment to utilize greener and more sustainable transportation solutions,” the power utility company noted.
eSakay also serves as an enthusiastic partner to Filipino company Mober, primarily in “spearheading a revolution in the logistics industry by utilizing the Philippines’ first electric delivery van for one of the largest retailers in the world.”
Meralco Chief Sustainability Officer and eSakay President Raymond B. Ravelo said “our strategic collaboration with PilipinasAuto underscores eSakay’s continuing commitment to promote the country’s important transition to electrified transport.”
He added this new partnership “highlights and heightens our pledge to provide our clients with top-notch, reliable, and fit-for-purpose electric vehicles, supported by requisite charging infrastructure solutions. This is all geared towards enabling our clients to enhance their operations while advancing their sustainability agenda.”
In the tie-up of PilipinasAuto and eSakay, they have so far rolled out two EV models—the Dongfeng Rich 6 EV and Dongfeng EM26 cargo van electric vehicles.”
eSakay emphasized that the Dongfeng Rich 6 EV fleet has been widely touted as “the first mass produced electric pick-up in the world” and this is equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor that is capable of delivering 163 Ps (PferdStarke or literally means ‘horse strength’ in German), as well as 420 Nm (newton metres) of torque to the rear wheels.
In addition, the Dongfeng EM26 EV cargo van “is a closed van ideal for courier and logistics companies as it can carry 1,360 kilograms in its 5.6 cubic meter cargo space” and that EV model has “a permanent magnet synchronous motor driving the rear wheels and can produce a maximum power of 95 Ps and 230Nm of torque.”
As stated by Ginia Domingo, president and general manager of Pilipinas Auto, “the electric vehicle era is fast approaching as technology accelerates to evolve...it is only a matter of time before we make these EVs available to the public.”
She further specified that “our partnership with eSakay builds excitement for us as we are able to introduce Dongfeng’s exemplary technology in electric vehicles to the Philippines.”
