ILOILO CITY—The local government of Iloilo City is eyeing to reinstate certain restrictions as COVID-19’s Omricon variant looms.
“While we still do not have any confirmed case of Omicron in the city, we need to be proactive about it,” said Mayor Jerry Treñas.
Foremost, Treñas announced that COVID-19 swab tests will once again be going to be implemented for inbound travellers.
In a statement, Treñas mentioned COVID-19 swab tests for travelers coming from the National Capital Region (NCR), Cebu and Boracay Island.
Treñas also urged to stop face-to-face gatherings with those who are not from the same household. Treñas even cancelled the first flag ceremony for the year last Monday, January 3.
Treñas also recommended to the city government’s COVID-19 team that face-to-face sports like basketball, volleyball, and the like will not be allowed in the meantime.
This also came as 16 new COVID-19 cases were recorded for January 3 alone.
Meanwhile, the mayor is urging all city residents and even non-resident to get booster shots offered by the Iloilo City government.
