Metro Manila mayors Emy Calixto-Rubiano of Pasay City and Tony Tiangco of Navotas tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), but both are doing fine and were reported to be continuing with their duties even while in isolation.

The Department of Education (DepEd) announced the suspension of all face-to-face classes in pilot schools in Metro Manila, which goes under Alert Level 3 starting Jan. 3 to Jan. 15, 2022.

The daily number of new infections continued to substantially increase as it reached 4,600 on Sunday, Jan. 2, 2022, while the increase in positivity rate in Metro Manila slowed to 28.7 percent.
