Using 1, 275 bottles and five kilos of shredded soft plastics with 15 bags of cement and 1.6 cubic meters of sand, the local government with the BNSHS Youth for Environment in Schools Organization and Supreme Student Government have successfully put up two eco-toilets in the area.
According to the bulletin released by LGU Basco, the construction of the toilet usually consumes at least 36 bags of cement and six cubic meters of aggregates, but, with this eco-friendly solution, they effectively reduced this by replacing the materials with eco-bricks from the recyclable materials and residuals that the student organizations collected from the municipal eco-center and various households.
It was added that this project is part of their effort to reduce garbage through recycling and introduce environment-friendly innovations to the community, especially the youth.
The eco-toilets are now functional and can cater to residents visiting the sanctuary site and even tourists once Batanes is open again to tourists.
