Stricter health measures up in Batanes as it logs 11th COVID-19 case


The provincial government of Batanes implemented stricter health measures anew Friday, June 11, after the province logged its 11th COVID-19 case Thursday, June 10.

According to the bulletin released by Batanes authorities last Thursday, June 10, the latest case was detected after a 54-year- old female resident of Basco tested positive for the disease as revealed in her RT-PCR test results.

The patient was tagged as B-011 and had no travel history outside Batanes, She also had no direct contact with any suspected or confirmed COVID-19 case.

Despite this, the provincial government cannot declare the presence of community transmission in the province as investigation is still ongoing.

Batanes Gov. Marilou Cayco has signed Executive Order No. 18, Series of 2021, strictly monitoring the movement of the population and the observation of the set minimum health standards. Mass gatherings are prohibited while mass public transportation is restricted.

Municipal and barangay COVID checkpoints and outposts will resume 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and inter-municipality travel will be strictly checked.

The stricter health measures are effective immediately and will run until June 25 to control or avoid further COVID transmission within the community.

B-011 has been isolated at the Batanes General Hospital and extensive contact tracing is ongoing.
