Rodriguez calls on CDO constituents to take COVID-19 booster shots

House Deputy Speaker Rufus Rodriguez has appealed to his constituents and other residents of Cagayan de Oro City to avail of 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccine booster shots Monday, Dec. 6.

Rodriguez, who represents CDO’s second district in the Lower House, made the plea after the city reported that there was no case of COVID-19 infection over the weekend.

“Let us sustain this achievement of national and city health officials by getting booster shots, which will give us added protection against the virus, especially its newly discovered Omicron variant,” the Mindanao solon said.

Rodriguez, at the same time, appealed to the city's residents who have not been vaccinated to take the vaccine.

"Those getting boosters and those taking their first dose could go to the city’s vaccination centers or participate in the planned next round of three-day national Bakunahan on Dec. 15-17," the CDO congressman said.

“Let us continue protecting ourselves from the virus by getting vaccinated and observing health protocols. Let us continue bringing down the number of infections and reporting zero cases.” Rodriguez also commended national and city health officials for containing the spread of the virus in the city known as "City of Golden Friendship".

The House Deputy Speaker said last weekend’s no-case report was a remarkable improvement from the swelling of infections that happened last June to September, when city officials and hospitals scrambled to handle the rising number of COVID-19 patients.

He also lauded Health Secretary Francisco Duque lll and national vaccination czar Sec. Carlito Galvez for responding immediately to his appeals to help his city.

In response to his call, the two government officials quickly sent to the capital city of Misamis Oriental additional vaccines and ventilators, among other forms of medical assistance.
