Fernando Martin ‘Nani’ Roxas presents his love for arts and music through latest one-man exhibit

Brushstrokes and symphony become one artful display through 'Music in Me' exhibit

In life, we are always presented with many choices and divided into different groups. The most common of all is that we are either left-brained or right-brained. With one side of the brain dominating the other, one can easily be classified as analytical and methodical (left) or creative and artistic (right). But the truth is, no side is really stronger than the other, at least according to the American Psychological Association. Both sides make us who we are, and harnessing them is the key to discovering your full potential.

A testament to that is Fernando Martin “Nani” Roxas. As an educator, Roxas teaches operations management, supply chains, and systems thinking in the degree and executive learning programs of the Asian Institute of Management (AIM), where he has been teaching for over 20 years. He has published internationally in peer-reviewed journals on sustainable energy and tourism. He earned his master's degree in engineering geology from the Asian Institute of Technology in Bangkok, Thailand, and an MBA from the AIM. He obtained his Doctor of Business Administration with high distinction from De La Salle University. Adding to those, he is also the executive director of the AIM’s Dr. Andrew L. Tan Center for Tourism where he develops training programs and research on sustainable tourism applications.

This time, he is setting aside his academic laurels and presents his artistic side with his third upcoming solo show, “Music in Me.” With about 25 pieces in different genres and media, he details his love affair with music and art. Roxas favors working with acrylics on canvas, mixed media on paper board, pastel on velour, and recently, gouache on canvas, describing his style as being more akin to the expressionist movement in art.

While having an exhibit for one’s works can brand a person an artist, Roxas stresses that “He is not a professional artist” but “a professional educator who enjoys the arts and music.”

“Music in Me” will run from Jan. 7 to 20, 2022, at the Gateway Gallery on the 5th level of the Araneta City’s Gateway Tower in Cubao, Quezon City.
