QC gov't to hold New Year countdown in QMC

The traditional New Year countdown in Quezon City will be held at the Liwasang Aurora in the Quezon Memorial Circle (QMC), the local government announced on Thursday, Dec. 30.

The event will start at 8 p.m. on Dec. 31 until 1 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2022.

Only 500 fully vaccinated individuals will be allowed in the venue.

A first-come, first-served basis will also be implemented during the event, the local government said.

Attendees are also required to register onsite for contact tracing purposes.

There will be light-emitting diode (LED) boards to be placed in different areas in the park for those who will not be able to enter the venue.

The local government also said that all entrance and exit points will be open to the public, but motorists can only pass through the East Avenue entrance.

Personnel from the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS), and Task Force on Traffic and Transport Management (TFTTM) will also be deployed to ensure safety and to implement health and safety protocols.

The event will also be broadcasted live on Quezon City government and QC Tourism and Promotions Facebook pages.

The New Year countdown for 2021 was also held in the QMC last year with a virtual fireworks display since attendees were not allowed inside due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
