AFP cooks up relief efforts for Cebuanos

CEBU CITY — As Cebuanos try to rise from the ravages of Typhoon Odette, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) pitched in a much-needed help by deploying the "AFP Mobile Kitchen" here.

Capt. Teresita Cansancio, Information Officer of the Visayas Command (Viscom), said the purpose of the deployment of the "AFP Mobile Kitchen" is to somehow alleviate the Cebuanos' living condition that has been severely affected by the recent typhoon.

The mobile kitchen arrived in Cebu on December 24 and on Christmas Day, it was deployed in Barangay San Roque.

On December 27, the mobile kitchen went to Barangays Ermita and Pasil.

The mobile kitchen then went to Barangay Tejero on Dec. 29.

In each barangay that was visited, the mobile kitchen distributed packed meals to 1,500 individuals for lunch and another 1,500 packed meals for dinner.

Cansancio said Viscom coordinated with barangay officials to ensure the smooth distribution of meals.
The mobile kitchen came from the national headquarters under the AFP Logistics Command.

The mobile kitchen is usually deployed in areas that have been hit by calamities or major events such as the Marawi siege.

“The funds use for the mobile kitchen came from the AFP but Viscom will accept donation. For those who have enough, they can donate rice, chicken, vegetables and other essentials," added Cansancio.

Aside from Cebu City, the mobile kitchen is also set to visit southern Cebu, which was also badly hit by the typhoon.

“Your Visayas Command always looks out for the welfare of our fellow Filipinos as we extend help in any possible way. Providing free meals might not be a long-term solution, but at least it could help alleviate the condition being felt by the people of Cebu from the wrath brought by the Supertyphoon Odette,” said Viscom Commander Lt. Gen. Robert Dauz.
