Comelec conducts mock polls

In preparation for the May 2022 polls, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Wednesday, Dec. 29 conducted mock polls in Metro Manila and several provinces.

The mock elections were held in 34 different precincts with an average of about 600 to 700 voters per precinct.

In a press briefing in Pasay City, Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez described the conduct of the mock polls a success.

"The mock elections was actually a success. In the vast of the areas, where the mock elections were held we have a very high turnout," he said.

"In fact, in most places we have a 100 percent turnout versus our expected number of voters," added Jimenez.

Earlier in the day, the poll official said the activity will serve as an opportunity for them to see the problem areas.

"We expect that this will be an opportunity for us to see precisely where the problem areas are," Jimenez said.

"This is not supposed to be a perfect event. This is supposed to be an event where we see real life problems happening, where we see real life situations...and hopefully real life solutions working," he added.

For the mock polls, the Comelec used names of celebrities on the test ballot like Hollywood stars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.

The mock polls was conducted in Metro Manila and in the provinces of Isabela, Albay, Negros Oriental, Leyte, Maguindanao, and Davao del Sur.

In the National Capital Region, the mock polls was held in Barangays San Pedro and San Roque in Pateros; Barangays Ususan and Western Bicutan in Taguig City; and Barangays 70 and 110 in Pasay City.
