New ‘The Batman’ trailer presents the Bat, the Cat, and the Riddler

Gotham City’s safety is under great threat and here to save the day is Batman and Catwoman.

Warner Bros. Pictures releases a new trailer of the upcoming “The Batman” movie, which presents the connection between DC Comics’ iconic characters Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle, portrayed by Robert Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz, respectively.

Led by director Matt Reeves and screenwriter Peter Craighe, the new film looks into Bruce’s early life as the Caped Crusader, two years after he donned the signature black costume. “Striking fear into the hearts of criminals has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City,” the film’s official synopsis says. “With only a few trusted allies, Alfred Pennyworth, Lt. James Gordon, amongst the city's corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens.”

Adding to that list of allies is Catwoman, well, sort of. “The Bat and the Cat, it has a nice ring to it,” the cat burglar says before a series of their action scenes are presented in the teaser. The movie also gives a glimpse of Selina’s origin story, a different take from the previous “Batman” films, from her being a nightclub worker to one fierce cat lady.

“The funny thing about working with cats is that they don't care—which is why we love them. Like, I spent time with all the cats before we shot with them, but they don't remember me . Like, they don’t give a shit,” the actress told Buzzfeed. “At the end of the day, you cannot tell a cat what to do. Like, after all the car flips and fights and chases, one of the hardest things to do on set was getting the cats to stay put.”

“The Batman” also features Paul Dano as the villain Edward Nashton, a.k.a. The Riddler, who is pretty much a social-media-savvy as he live-streams his crimes.

The film is set to be released in Philippine theaters in March 2022. Watch the trailer below.
