CPP leader killed in Davao de Oro


Army on high alert in anticipation of CPP's 53rd Founding Anniversary

DAVAO CITY - A Communist Party of the Philippines Central Committee member was killed in a military operation on Christmas Eve in Davao de Oro, the military reported on Saturday (Dec. 25).

In a statement, the 10th Infantry (Agila) Division identified the casualty as Anna Sandra Reyes alias Kaye.

According to the military, Reyes, who was also the Secretary of the Regional White Area Committee under Southern Mindanao Regional Committee (SMRC) "was killed in a combat operation that ensued for 30-minutes with the pursuing troops of 5th Scout Ranger Company, 2nd Scout Ranger Battalion and the 1001st Infantry Brigade against SMRC" in Davao De Oro.

"Alias KAYE was among the 35 members of the elected Central Committee and was one of the facilitators during the distribution of ballots and accounting in an election conducted by the central committee, POLITBURO, and the Executive Committee with late Julius Giron Alias NARS, Benito Tiamzon, and Wilma Tiamzon as supervisors of election which was held in Samar in 2016," it added.

The troops also seized war materials including an M653 attached with M203 grenade launcher; a SAR Galil Rifle; one magazine (long) of M653; 14 rounds of Ctg Cal 5.56mm ammo; a magazine (long); 14 rounds ammo of SAR Galil; a cartridge of Cal 40mm HE; three NOKIA 2G Phones with six sim cards; and assorted medical paraphernalia and medicine.

MGen Ernesto C. Torres Jr, 10th Infantry Division Commander said “(t)he 10th Infantry Division will continue to safeguard communities in its area of responsibility against the remaining remnants of SMRC in Southern Mindanao. Agila Troopers will continue to hit the ground running to pursue Communist NPA Terrorists disrupting peace gains in the area."

The military is also on high alert in anticipation of the 53rd Founding Anniversary of the Communist Party of the Philippines.
