Manila opens COVID-19 vaccine pre-registration for children aged 5 to 11

Residents of Manila who want to have their children, aged five to 11, to get vaccinated against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) can now pre-register them through Manila’s online vaccine registration facility, Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso announced on Friday, Dec. 24.

During a Manila Capital Report livestream on Dec. 24, Domagoso announced that Manila’s online vaccine registration facility would allow parents or guardians to pre-register their children aged five to 11, for COVID-19 vaccination prior to the nationwide deployment of the Pfizer vaccines for young children.

The announcement was made following the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) approval of the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for the Pfizer brand of vaccine on Thursday, Dec. 23.

The Pfizer vaccine to be used on children, five to 11 years old, has a lower dosage and concentration compared to the Pfizer vaccine used on adults and minors in the 12 to 17 age group while maintaining an efficacy rate of 90 percent, according to FDA Director-General Rolando Enrique Domingo.

As of Dec. 22, 212,225 vaccine doses have been deployed to minors, 12 to 17 years old in Manila, according to the Manila Public Information Office.

Of this number, 95,989 minors have been fully vaccinated while 116,346 have received their first dose.
