Evacuees in ‘Odette’-hit regions decrease to 372K —DSWD


The number of individuals who were staying in evacuation centers following the onslaught of typhoon Odette decreased to 372,000, while the number of those who opted to stay with their relatives or friends increased to more than 258,700, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said Thursday, Dec. 23.

Based on the latest report of the DSWD’s Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC), as of 6 a.m., Dec. 23, a total of 92,344 evacuee-families or 372,421 individuals who have been taking temporary shelter in 2,019 evacuation centers have been recorded.

Meanwhile, the number of families who opted to stay with their relatives and friends increased to 75,052 or 258,783 individuals.

The number of affected families from 5,155 barangays rose to 782,475 or 3,047.477 individuals, the DROMIC report noted.

The DSWD identified 10 affected regions. These are Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan), Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Soccsksargen (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, General Santos), and Caraga.

The DSWD reported the number of houses damaged due to Odette further increased to 200,245. These include 71,139 totally damaged houses and 129,106 partially damaged houses.

The humanitarian assistance extended by the DSWD, local government units, and non-government organizations to the typhoon victims increased to more than P70.3 million.
