Caritas Manila gives cash aid to dioceses affected by typhoon Odette


Dioceses affected by typhoon Odette received cash aid from Caritas Manila.

Church-run Radio Veritas on Thursday said Caritas Manila sent P2 million to the Diocese of Surigao through Fr. John Young, president of the Father Saturnino Urios University of Butuan City.

The social action arm of the Archdiocese of Manila also sent P1 million each to the dioceses of Tagbilaran, Maasin, Talibon,Kabankalan,as well as the Archdiocese of Cebu and the Apostolic Vicariate of Taytay, in Palawan.

Caritas Manila also sent P500,000 to the Archdiocese of Cagayan De Oro and additional P400,000 each to the Apostolic Vicariate of Puerto Princesa and the Diocese of Dumaguete.

Over the weekend, Caritas Philippines also launched an appeal to help the communities devastated by typhoon Odette that claimed dozens of lives.

Fr. Antonio Labiao, the national Caritas’ executive secretary, said many dioceses in the Visayas and Mindanao regions were “devastated” by the typhoon.

“They need shelter materials, food, water and medicines urgently. That is why we are appealing for your help,” Labiao said.
