MMDA deploys water purification team in Southern Leyte


The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has deployed a water purification team in Southern Leyte in response to the appeal of local residents for drinking water amid the onslaught of typhoon "Odette".

MMDA Chairman Benhur Abalos said a total of 3,639 gallons of drinking water were delivered to Barangay Combado and 1,215 gallons to Barangay Lib-og in Maasin City.

Meanwhile, a total of 8,428 gallons were distributed to Barangay Magallanes in the Municipality of Limasawa.

"Access to clean water is vital during normal and more particularly even in times of emergencies," said Abalos.

"Our top priority is to provide relief for the typhoon victims. I hope they will be able to rebuild and recover from the severe damage inflicted by Odette," he added.

Abalos also disclosed that the MMDA team conducted clearing operations in barangays Hantag, Malapoc Sur, Matin-ao Sur, Matin-ao Norte in Maasin City; Barangays Pangi and Taa in the Municipality of Bontoc; Barangay Libas in the Municipality of Leyte; and Barangay Union in the Municipality of Mahaplag.

The MMDA deployed teams to assist in the disaster response operations in areas that suffered severe devastation wrought by typhoon "Odette."

Southern Leyte was placed under a state of calamity due to the onslaught brought about by the typhoon.
