SC stops non-registration of 3 more party-list groups for 2022 elections

Three more party-list groups got their temporary relief from the Supreme Court (SC) which stopped the Commission on Elections (Comelec) from dismissing their petitions for registration for the 2022 elections.

Granted temporary restraining orders (TROs) in resolutions issued on Tuesday, Dec. 21, were Ang Tinig ng Senior Citizens sa Pilipinas, Inc., Lingkud Bayanihan Party, and the Mindanao Indigenous Peoples Conference for Peace and Development.

Granted the same TROs last Dec. 17 were Alliance for Resilience, Sustainabilty and Empowerment (ARISE), and the Igorot Warriors International, Inc. (IWI).

SC Clerk of Court Marife M. Lomibao Cuevas said the TROs were given by authority of Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo upon written recommendations by the justices-in-charge of the petitions.

The Comelec was ordered to comment on the petitions filed by the three party-list groups within 10 days from receipt of the resolutions.

With the TROs, the SC enjoined the Comelec from “enforcing its orders and resolutions.”
