The Limitless, bannered by Brandon Rosser, Reymar Caduyac, Marvin Hayes, and Jorey Napoles, kept its bid for the first back-to-back PBA 3x3 Leg titles alive with a strong showing in the first day of the tournament.

Limitless finished the group stage with a 3-1 win-loss card after surviving Pioneer Pro-Tibay in a tight 21-19 win in the opening game before clobbering the Cavitex Braves 21-16 later in the day. The only blemish to Limitless’ record came to its 11-16 loss to the still unbeaten and fellow quarterfinalist Platinum.

The Appmasters still have a game against Zamboanga Valientes in Day 2 but since the latter had decided to forfeit all of its remaining games in Leg 6 due to injuries, Limitless, along with the other Pool A teams will pick up a victory each.

Platinum, which also beat Pioneer on a 21-12 blowout for a 3-0 record, will go for the pool sweep when it faces the already eliminated Cavitex in Day 2. Pioneer secured the third seat in the QF with a 2-2 standing following its 21-16 win over the Braves.

In Pool B action, Jeff Manday came through in crunch time to lift San Miguel to a neat 2-0 record. Manday nailed the dagger both in Beermen’s games against Purefoods TJ Titans, 22-16, and NorthPort, 21-16. SMB will round up its schedule with a clash against TNT which split its schedule in the opening day.

TNT fell to Northport 21-15 before Almond Vosotros waxed hot from the two-point line to power his team to a 21-8 rout of the still winless Purefoods.

Meanwhile, Meralco topped Pool C with a 2-0 slate, defeating Ginebra San Miguel, 21-11, and Terrafirma, 21-18. Ginebra and Terrafirma will be battling for the second spot when it battles each other in the second day while the still winless Leg 3 champions Sista Super Sealer will try to barge into the win column when it faces Meralco.
