Miss World Philippines 2021’s styling team dishes out the details of her wardrobe in Puerto Rico

Tracy Maureen Perez is determined to bring home the second Miss World crown to the Philippines. Dominating on every pre-pageant competition, from the Beauty with a Purpose to the head-to-head challenges, that her victory is becoming a possibility, and we are keeping our fingers crossed. But apart from demonstrating her wit, charm, and mission in the pageant, Tracy is also championing Filipino fashion in her journey to the crown.

With the help of styling duo Vhee Co and Francis Chee, who have been working very closely with Miss World Philippines for a long time, Tracy is able to capture the country’s heritage, culture, creativity through the pieces she wore.

“We curated her overall looks in Puerto Rico based on the organization's requirements and we also considered the sceneries, the weather, and how she could stand out among the rest. With her frame, complexion, and height, we thought of putting her in vibrant colors,” Vhee tells Manila Bulletin Lifestyle. “We had a limited time to prepare but we made sure to bring out the best of Filipino fashion, and everything was made easier because of the generosity of our Filipino designers here and abroad.”

Philippine flora played as inspiration in her many looks. Among them is a custom piece by designer Kannah Besino-Simbulan, a radiant orchid dress inspired by Waling-waling. Another is her Top Model challenge look, the yellow Ilang-ilang gown by Pablo Mendez. And, of course, her national costume, an homage to local moon goddess Mayari, featuring the Morning Glory flower.

What is Philippine style without local prints and textiles? Tracy wore them with pride through Erich Miñoza creation made with Tausug’s pis siyabit fabric of Sulu and T’boli bells of South Cotabato, Neil Patrick Jimlani’s tangerine ensemble, and Jheboi Ramos Pascual royal creation mixed with indigenous print.
