Typhoon 'Odette': PCG rescues 200 stranded residents in Cagayan de Oro


Approximately 200 residents have been rescued from a chest-deep flood by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) after typhoon "Odette" slammed Cagayan de Oro City.

The PCG said Friday, Dec. 17, that among those rescued were women, children, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) who are residents of Barangay 6, Zone 6, Osmeña, Cagayan de Oro City.

"Gamit ang improvised floaters, dahan-dahang ginabayan ng mga PCG rescuers ang mga residente sa abot-dibdib na tubig baha kasunod ng #typhoonOdette (Using improvised floaters, residents were guided carefully by PCG rescuers out of the chest-deep flood following typhoon Odette's destruction)," the PCG said in a social media post.

The residents were taken to the nearest evacuation center.

As of 8 a.m. today, the PCG reported a total of 4,741 stranded passengers, drivers, and cargo helpers were assisted in various ports and regions in the country.
