PCG: Typhoon 'Odette' strands 4K passengers


A total of 4,741 passengers, drivers, and cargo helpers were stranded in different ports because of typhoon "Odette," the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Friday, Dec. 17.

The affected ports were from the Bicol Region, Central Visayas, North Eastern Mindanao, Eastern Visayas, and Western Visayas, the PCG said.

Bicol registered the highest number of stranded passengers at 1,998 while 37 more passengers were also prevented to travel in North Eastern Mindanao due to rough sea conditions.

Aside from that, there were 110 rolling cargoes, three motorbancas, and 83 other sea vessels were not able to travel as the typhoon affected movements in various ports.

At least 274 vessels and 178 motorbancas also took shelter as a precautionary measures that were implemented by the PCG Command Center.

The ports affected in the Bicol region are in Pioduran, Bacacay, Legazpi, Virac, Masbate, San Andres, Aroroy, Cataingan, San Jacinto, San Pascual, Matnog and Pilar.

In Eastern Visayas, the affected ports include Ormoc, Baybay, Isabel, Bato, Liloan Port Ferry Terminal, San Ricardo, Tacloban, Tib'ok Wharf, Balwarteco, Sta. Clara, Dapdap, San Isidro and Naval Port.

Meanwhile, the ports of Tabuelan, Sta. Fe Pier, Madellin, Bogo, Daanbantayan, Malapascua, Carmen, San Remigio, Kaongkod, Taloot, Mainit, Liloan, Tulay Wharf, Tangil Wharf, Toledo, Naga, Talisay, Pier 1 and 4 Cebu City, Angasil, Labogon Wharf, Tayud, Danao, Dungoan, Tubigon, Tagbilaran, Loon, Getafe, Panglao, Ubay, Consuelo, Siquijor, Larena, Dumaguete and Amlan remained close in Central Visayas.

In North Eastern Mindanao, the ports of Lipata, Dapa, Nasipit, Picop, Beaching Area, Campaguyok, Is-isan, Loreto, Dinagat, Tag Abaca, Sering, Columbus and Albor were affected by the typhoon.

In Western Visayas, affected were Lapuz Wharf, PPA Pier, Parola Wharf, Fort San Pedro, Dumangas, Botongo, Buenavista, Guimaras, Caticlan Jetty, San Patrio Blvd, Bredco, Feeder, Purok Camia and Port Area, Brgy. VI.
