'Odette' suspends sea trips in Iloilo


ILOILO CITY — As Storm Signal No. 1 has been hoisted for Tropical Storm “Odette”, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has suspended sea trips effective Wednesday, December 15.

Commander Edison Diaz, PCG chief in Iloilo, issued an advisory that fast crafts and roll-on, roll-off (RoRo) vessels transiting from Iloilo City and the port in Dumangas town, Iloilo province with routes to Bacolod City and Negros Occidental provinces have been cancelled.

The cancellation also covers trips going to and from Cebu, Palawan, Batangas, and Cagayan de Oro.

Inter-island sea trips in northern Iloilo province have been canceled. This includes sea trips to and from Gigantes and Sicogon Islands in Carles town.

“Likewise, all fishing and banca vessels in the areas are advised not to venture at sea,” Diaz emphasized in the advisory.

As of noontime of December 15, the rest of Panay Island including the provinces of Aklan, Antique and Capiz provinces as well as the island province of Guimaras are now under Storm Signal No. 1.
