DOF recognizes San Juan City for efficient tax collection

Mayor Francis Zamora accepted on Tuesday the awards and certificates from the Department of Finance – Bureau of Local Government Finance (DOF – BLGF) recognizing the City of San Juan as one of the top performing local government units (LGUs) in locally sourced revenue collection in the Philippines for fiscal year 2020.

The local government unit (LGU) ranked first among all the cities in the National Capital Region (NCR) in terms of efficient collection of government taxes and third in the collection of locally sourced revenues in the country.

San Juan City has collected a total of P1,731,860, equivalent to 137.1 percent of its target P1,262,800.

Zamora and City Treasurer Rosette Laquian attended the recognition program at Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga.

“Napakahirap mangolekta ng buwis ngayong panahon ng pandemya dahil sa mga nagsarang negosyo, ngunit sa kabila nito, nakamit po ng San Juan ang pagkilala mula sa BLGF. Ito ay karangalan para sa amin at sa lahat ng San Juaneno, maraming salamat sa inyong suporta at tiwala sa pagbayad ng buwis (It's very difficult to collect taxes during this time of pandemic due to the closure of several establishments. However, San Juan has achieved this recognition from the BLGF. This is such an honor for us and to all San Juaneños. Thank you so much for all your support and trust on paying taxes)," Zamora said.

Zamora also vowed to improve the city’s collection strategies to make it easier for residents and business owners to pay their taxes.
