This year’s Miss Universe is India’s Harnaaz Sandhu after she defeated the candidates from South Africa and Paraguay in the Top 3 of the competition.

She is the third candidate to win the Miss Universe title for India after the victory of Sushmita Sen in 1994 and Lara Dutta in 2000.

Though Gomez did not bring home the coveted crown, the Vice President thanked the beauty queen for “representing us well.“

“You are an inspiration to us as you break barriers with your strength, courage, and compassion. Mabuhay ka!,” Robredo said.

Her post was accompanied by emoticons of the Philippine flag and pink heart.
