Mayor Tiangco signs ordinance for tax discounts, exemptions

Navotas City Mayor Toby Tiangco signed on Saturday, Dec. 11, an ordinance providing tax discounts to residents and exemptions to housing program awardees.

"We would like to thank and give back to the individual and business taxpayers who pay their dues promptly even during this difficult time. For our city to continue giving adequate services, we need our people's support, especially their faithful and timely payment of taxes," Tiangco said.

City Ordinance No.2021-63 or the Navotas Pandemic Recovery Assistance Program grants a five percent discount on real property taxes, business taxes, transfer and local charges, regulatory fees, and other charges for the calendar year 2022 to the taxpayers who will settle their fees on time or before Dec. 31, 2021.

A five percent discount on every payment will also be applied to individuals who will pay in installments real property and business taxes as long as they do not have any debts.

However, barangay business clearance and fire inspection fees are not included.

The ordinance will also give exemption on regulatory fees and other service charges to all registered businesses without delinquent accounts and the gross sales for the year 2021 did not exceed P120,000.

Fisherfolk, tricycle, and pedicab operators will also enjoy the exemption, except for the non-residents of the city.

Meanwhile, the January 2022 maintenance fee for the Pabahay awardees will be free under the ordinance.

Earlier, Tiangco signed the City Ordinance No. 221-62 that waives unpaid local taxes, regulatory fees, and service charges incurred from January 2020 to December 2021 to taxpayers who will settle their accounts until June 30, 2022.
