Filipino designs reigned supreme at the 70th edition of the pageant

Filipino designers conquered the universe again, well, the Miss Universe 2021 stage, with the evening dresses they designed for some of the candidates during the pageant’s evening gown competition. Here’s the round-up of some of the Filipino-made gowns we’ve seen.

Miss South Africa Lalela Lali Mswane in Ezra Couture

If there is one word to describe Dubai-based fashion designer Ezra Santos’ creation for Miss South Africa 2021, it would be opulence. Lalela Lali Mswane is just mesmerizing in the couturier’s gold creation featuring cutout details, power shoulders, and intricate embellishment.

Miss Philippines Beatrice Luigi Gomez in Francis Libiran

International Filipino designer Francis Libiran paid homage to the Philippines’ indigenous tribal patterns called “Pintados” and merged it with his signature art deco design for Beatrice Luigi Gomez’s evening gown. “With thousands of crystals carefully hand-sewn onto the piece, this represents hope and unparalleled beauty, culture, history, and traditions of the Philippines,” the Miss Universe Philippines says.

Miss USA Ellie Smith in Michael Cinco

Beauty queen-journalist Elle Smith wore a strapless dress by Dubai-based couturier Michael Cinco. Its iridescent teal design stood out in a sea of gold and champagne-colored dresses.

Miss Bahamas Chantel O’Brian in Garimon Escandor Roferos

Fashion designer Garimon Escandor Roferos created a silver long-sleeved gown for Chantel O’Brian. Its crystal embellishments and form-fitting silhouette definitely accentuated Miss Bahamas’ beauty.
