Reports said Malabanan was gunned down inside his store on Dec. 9 in Calbayog City, Samar.

" demand immediate action against the murder of Jesus Malabanan. The Guild holds the Duterte regime accountable for its fascist measures which have caused suffering and lamentation to the Filipino people," CEGP said in a statement.

Now, more than ever, we demand justice for all the victims of state-sponsored killings. We vow to fight as a collective press freedom fighter, together with the basic sectors of society, in defending our basic rights such as freedom of the press," it added.

Malabanan, 58, was a correspondent for Manila Standard, Bandera, and Reuters.

Cabinet Secretary and acting Presidential Spokesperson Karlo Nograles said the Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFMS) is investigating the killing of Malabanan.
