Women’s organization raises concern in Iloilo’s unsolved murder

ILOILO CITY — A women’s organization has raised concern over the unsolved murder of Claire Diergos, a 36-year-old single mother in Iloilo province.

“As advocates, we express our dismay for what seems to be justice long overdue,” said the Soroptimist International of Iloilo.

“May we know what’s taking so long? What is the real score pertaining to her case? Will she ever gain justice?” the group noted in a December 8 open letter.

This was after the Iloilo Provincial Police Office (IPPO) has yet to file murder charges against the suspects. The police claimed that witnesses backed out.

To recall, Diergos was found dead inside her vehicle in Sta. Barbara town, Iloilo province last

October 26.

Diergos’ killing has been the talk of the town both in Iloilo and Guimaras, the victim’s home province.

No suspects have been named, but the police claim they are big personalities.

For Soroptimist International of Iloilo, the Diergos case is timely as part of the 18-day campaign to end violence against women (VAW) and that law enforcement should implement the necessary laws.

“We strongly believe that the response to violence must be immediate, coordinated and effective so that crimes are punished and justice is secured. There can be no lasting peace when women and girls suffer from violence,” they added.
