TACLOBAN CITY — The shear line affecting the Visayas, cloudy skies with scattered to widespread rain showers, and thunderstorms caused flooding and landslides in some parts of Eastern Visayas.
A red rainfall warning was issued in Eastern Samar, Samar, and Leyte, and an orange rainfall warning in Biliran and Southern Leyte provinces by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.Office of the Civil Defense 8.
Regional Director Lord Byron Torrecarion said flooding was reported in Brgy. Tinago, Quinapondan along the Buenavista-Lawaan-Marabut Road, which is deemed not passable to all types of vehicles.
The road in Brgy. San Pedro, Quinapondan along Jct. Buenavista-Lawaan-Marabut Road is also not passable to all types of vehicles.Flooding was also reported in Brgy. Bigo, Arteche along Arteche-Jipapad-Las Navas Catubig Rawis Road, which is likewise not passable to all types of vehicles.
Motorists are advised to take the alternate route going to Jipapad, Eastern Samar in Imelda, Lapinig, Northern Samar, and vice versa.
Meanwhile, a landslide was reported along national road Jct. Buenavista-Lawaan-Marabut road in Brgy. Coticot, Giporlos, Eastern Samar.
Said road section is only one lane passable while the Department of Public Works and Highways Eastern Samar District Engineering Office maintenance team is ready to be deployed to conduct clearing operations on-site once flooding subsides along the national road in Quinapondan town.
As of this writing, their maintenance crew, drivers, and heavy equipment operators are also on standby for quick response to any eventualities and continue to monitor road conditions.
Classes have been declared suspended in Tacloban City Thursday (December 9).He added that there are no reported evacuees and stranded passengers in airports and seaports so far.
