A PNP-Special Action Force (SAF) member and a murder suspect were killed while three other persons were injured during a shootout in Barangay Baas, Lamitan City, Basilan Tuesday afternoon, December 7.
The shootout occurred during a service of search warrant against Jerry Harayin y Omar aka Borhan O Harayin, Lamitan City’s 5th Most Wanted Personality.
Special Action Forces personnel were on their way to serve a warrant of arrest for Murder against Harayin when the latter fired several shots from an M16 rifle against the lawmen.
The lawmen retaliated by hitting Harayin and killing him on the spot.
Two SAF personnel, PSSgt Sabas Banatao and PCpl Nizar Alijam were wounded during the shootout and were brought to the Lamitan District Hospital.
Two other civilians, one of whom is being investigated as a cohort of Harayin, were also brought to the hospital for being caught in the crossfire.
Alijam however expired while undergoing treatment.
